E is for Eclectic…

I knew immediately what word we would be using for the letter E. I didn’t have to pause and think at all. In fact, when I first saw this meme, I knew what our word for the letter E would be. No hesitation. In our homeschool, E is for Eclectic…

We are Eclectic homeschoolers. Always have been and we always will be. I spent many hours in the beginning of our homeschooling adventure trying to see where we would fit in our learning philosophy. I like Classical studies really well. I fell in love with the Charlotte Mason method. Delight Directed sounded like a lot of fun. I found sound reasoning in the Principle Approach, Traditional Textbook would most likely keep my family happy and they wouldn’t question our decision to homeschool too much. I wasn’t too sure about Unschooling, as I felt we needed a little structure for my Aspie child. Unit Studies looked fun and intrigued me. So since I truly couldn’t decide which of these methods to use, I decided to just take what I liked the very best of each of the philosophies and curriculum out there and that would be us. I told people that we liked an eclectic mix of studies even before I realized that Eclectic homeschooling was a method. Once I discovered that it was a real method, I knew we had found our place.

I love that we use so many different things in our homeschool. I think we would truly become B-O-R-E-D if we didn’t. I like not being tied down to one curriculum publisher. I like finding the best in each subject area for us. I like being able to change things up when the wind changes direction around here. It is exciting. It is fun. We learn a lot.

In our homeschool, E is for Eclectic…and it rules!
