Homeschool Fun-Something New This Year

I love to have fun in our homeschool.  But it seems like the older we get, the more difficult the studies become and the fun kind of gets sucked out.  So I determined that I was not going to allow this to happen and we would approach this calendar year a bit differently.

Now before I tell you what we are doing, I want to make it perfectly clear that I do not work for the company whose products I am about to mention.  I am not an affiliate of this company. This isn’t a review where I was given anything and I wasn’t asked to write about these products.  I just thought they looked like fun and that it would infuse some fun into our school days.

What I found was a product by Fortunately For You Books.  It is kind of a unit study/lapbooking type of product.  It is called Remember Me Pockets.  The studies are sold by month.  So there is a study for January, one for February, one for March, and so on.  Each month consists of 7 pockets that you make and fill with activities that showcase the different things about that month.  There is a timeline that you can put together for the month that highlights the different things to celebrate all month long.  The timeline is broken down by week and you are able to paste the 4 sheets together to make one long timeline.  It is a great way to see what is happening that month with just a quick glance.

The seven pockets are divided into the following categories:

  • Remember Me Author Pocket–Author Biographies and corresponding actiities, Author Tags, Monthly Bookshelf
  • Remember Me Book Report Pocket–Book Checklist, Any completed Book Report cards
  • Remember Me Interview Pocket–Interview pages and corresponding activities
  • Remember Me Monthly Pocket–Monthly Calendar, Any monthly events activities
  • Remember Me Weekly Pocket–Weekly Calendar, Any weekly events activities
  • Remember Me Daily Pocket–Daily Calendar, Any daily events activities
  • Remember Me Holiday Pocket–Activities for specific and nationally honored holidays, Your Birthday worksheet (if applicable)

We were a little slow getting this started for January.  My son had no idea what I was up to and why we would want to do it.  He dug his heels in and didn’t want to try it out.  I finally got him to at least look at it today.  Now he is really excited about it and bummed that we are behind for the month.   (It pays to just listen to Mom.  Lesson learned. ) However, we are going to try to do as much as we can to catch up to the month and we will for sure have some fun doing it.  Next week we will be celebrating National Pie Day.  You can guess what we will be making that day.  I will try to post some pictures of our creation that day.

I plan on sharing our adventures with these books all year here on my blog.  We should be learning a lot of fun things and doing some really fun activities.  We are even going to be doing the smaller Remember Me books during our Summer vacation.  *Gasp!*  Learning during the Summer…in a homeschool?  Ridiculous, I know.  Maybe our brains won’t turn to oatmeal this year.  Oh, speaking of oatmeal…did you know that January is National Oatmeal Month?  We do…

  1. I’ll have to check those out… thanks Brenda! I love when people share what is on their shelves. Not only stuff they get to review… but the stuff they really love and BOUGHT for themselves… (not to say you can’t love a review product)

    They look like fun!

  2. What a great idea! My guys would love this too. They are big fans of labeling things, listing things, and keeping track of things. Thanks for sharing this gem!

  3. I have seen these, but I really didn’t ‘get’ what they were. This helps explain a bit. It can be hard to keep the fun in as they grow older – but it sounds like this should keep that element of fun!

  4. These look fun!

I am stopping by from the Blog Walk.

    I am already following you!

I believe you are already following me too!

I like you Homeschool Mothers Journal. I think I may start doing that too.
