Today I am thankful for a sense of humor. There are so many different things that can make me smile or laugh. I like all types of humor and wit. Well, unless it is mean and crude. I don’t find those too funny at all.
I have been known to laugh and laugh at a slapstick comedy. And then in the next moment laugh at satire. I can usually find humor in everyday occurrences. I can sometimes begin to laugh for no reason at all. Usually that is when I am really, really tired. Then that brings on a whole new level of humor for me.
In school, I was the class comedian, not the class clown. The class clown was the guy who streaked across the football field during halftime. The comedian is the one who thought of it. The comedian would never actually do the deed. But they would dare someone else to do it. That was me. The comedian.
I have an unusual talent for sarcasm and dry wit. A lot of people don’t really understand my humor sometimes. I don’t think they “get” me. But it has served me well through the years. I actually think that it has helped my son to develop a sense of humor. He had to learn how to have one in order to survive ME as his mother. I think some major rewiring has occurred in his little Asperger brain, because for someone who can be so literal, he can say the absolute funniest things. And he loves comedians and reading “The Far Side.” My son has a sense of humor like Gary Larson. Some of his own cartoons are written in the same spirit that Gary Larson penned his famous comic strip. The really funny thing about that is that my son was writing his own comic strip with that humor long before I introduced him to “The Far Side.” He was shocked to see that someone else thought the same way he did. It made me laugh and still does as I remember the expression on his face.
I think that some of my friends are hilarious. They say things that really make me laugh. I love being around them or chatting with them through e-mail and on forums or Instant Messaging. It brightens my day to see the wit and humor expressed by friends on Facebook. It make working in my virtual office at home seem more like working in a real office. Only it is more fun and a whole lot more comfortable.
People who don’t really know me usually don’t realize that I have a huge sense of humor. I tend to come across as quiet. Other times I come across as all business and an enforcer when I have to be. But once someone begins to really get to know me, they discover that I really, really love to laugh. Often it is at myself. I really, really hate to be the enforcer or all business. I would rather spend time joking and laughing.
Some days I choose to laugh just so I won’t cry. Other times I am laughing so hard I am crying. I like to find humor all around me. Sometimes it is in a good book. Sometimes it is in a piece of art. Movies and television make me laugh. People make me laugh. And animals can be the funniest of all when you stop to watch them. Have you ever seen a robin trip? I have and it still makes me laugh to think about it.
So today, I am thankful for a sense of humor. I like to think it is God’s way of helping me cope with all that goes on in my life each day. I am pretty sure that God has a sense of humor. I’ll have to tell you about that sometime.
What are you thankful for today?

My whole family is very funny. I love laughter.
I grew up in a family with a sense of humor….It definitely can serve to relieve some tense moments!! My first husband’s family enjoyed laughter, and humor. I don’t think my second husband or his family have/had much of a sense of humor at all…he seemed to always take everything seriously! The darling man I am blessed to be married to now has a humor that fits right in with my family! In fact, his personality is a LOT like my younger brother (and in fact, the two resemble each other in appearances, too! the kids get a kick out of that!!).
Well, it just became very apparent to me why you and I get along so well! I’m the exact same way!
I’m glad you have a sense of humor, Brenda – we SO need it some days, don’t we?
OH BRENDA!!! I totally *get* you! I think we are a lot alike and I giggled when you talked about your son developing a sense of humor because he had to in order to survive you……. OH I *GET* THAT!!!
I love the difference between the class comedian and the class clown! So you were the “brains” of the operation.;)
Have a blessed day,
Cheryl
Thanks for the reminder that humor is a gift. What a great description of class clown and comedian! If we didn’t have a sense of humor at our house we would all be crazy.
I love laughing too! THANKS!!

Laughter is the best medicine. It’s a gift to be able to help others laugh. It’s really cool that your son has been blessed by your sense of humor.
Most people view my husband and I as very serious, but that’s actually not the case. We love laughter around our house.
Your sense of humor is my favorite thing about you Brenda! I tell Heidi that all of the time!
My mom will always be remembered by her great sense of humor. She is actually the topic of my gratitude post today.
Me sarcastic, me enjoy sense of humor, me in strange mood. Have a great day!
