Today I am grateful for the Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op that I participate in each week. I love getting all of the fresh fruits and veggies each week. It is just like Christmas and I know we are eating healthier because of it. It also saves us tons of money for our food. It only costs me $16.50 each week ($15 for the basket and $1.50 for the shipping), and I always get way more for that money than I would at our local grocery store. It is also fresher food.
The good thing is that if I have a lot of something, I can just throw the extra in to my dehydrator to make a treat for later. Take this week for example. I got extra black grapes. I know we won’t eat them all this week, even though they are so yummy. So I plan on washing half of them and putting them into my dehydrator to make raisins. We will love eating those as the weather gets colder and we start eating steaming bowls of oatmeal for breakfast. I love raisins in my oatmeal. I also love apples in my oatmeal. I have dehydrated extra apples so I can put that in my oatmeal later too. Mmmmm….
My family volunteered at our pick-up site this week, so we got a couple of extras in our basket for helping. I chose the grapes, Gary chose a head of cauliflower, and Chandler picked an extra bunch of bananas. I was surprised that Chandler picked bananas. I didn’t realize he liked them so much. We will be making a banana pudding this week as he has requested it. Yum!
Here is what I got this week:
Let me break it down for you.
2 heads of cauliflower
1 bag of fresh green beans (around 2 1/2 lbs)
5# bag of potatoes
1 bunch of collard greens
1 pint sweet grape tomatoes
11 brussels sprouts
7 fuji apples
5 pears
3 Asian pears
5 fuju persimmons
2 large packages black grapes
15 bananas
I like that we have things that I probably wouldn’t normally purchase. We get to try new foods and we find that we actually like them most of the time. This week we are going to be trying persimmons for the very first time. I’ve never had one before. So it will be an adventure. I’ve found a couple of different recipes online, but I’m still not sure what we are going to do yet.
I am feeling pretty blessed with the bounty we picked up Saturday morning. I can hardly believe it cost us so little money. Our Heavenly Father is sure taking good care of us, and for that I am thankful.
What are you thankful for today?

This sounds fantastic Brenda!
Banana pudding. MMMmmm that sounds yummy! Would you share your recipe?
We love fruit at our house. You should make persimmon pudding! It is so good.
Hi Brenda,
Hope you are having a great weekend!
We belong to a co-op too! It is wonderful. I don’t know what we did before we joined.;)
Blessings,
Cheryl
That IS a nice basketful! And it all looks so fresh! I haven’t had banana pudding in years, it sounds great!
Ahhh; I ended up putting today’s post on yesterday’s linky…..(I also put it on today’s)….I don’t know if there is a way I can delete it, or if you can….
Wow! What a blessing. I live in ID and this is very intriguing. I was on their website looking into it. I have never heard of this before. It sounds great.
I love getting fresh fruit and vegetables and did something like this for a while this summer. But, the cost was MUCH higher (as air freight to Alaska isn’t cheap) for what we got.
Oh my goodness. I didn’t know I was hungry until I saw all those vitamins and minerals, errrr…. I mean fruits and veggies! YUM! What a deal!
What a great buy! And so healthy:) I went to their site also…but I’m over here on the east coast, so no luck:(
Good for you, though!
Wow – what a great deal! That really is a blessing! I looked and they don’t serve our state.
I’d love to find something like that!
We did a CSA the year after we moved, before we had a chance to plant our own gardens, and it was GREAT! I learned so much and tried so many new things I would never have thought of trying before. The kids felt they HAD to eat what I made out of the produce because it came in “THE Basket.” They liked most of it! I look forward to hearing what you do with the persimmons. We have persimmon trees on our property, but don’t do anyting with them because I have no idea what to do.
Blessings,
Heather
All that for $16.50??? That is awesome! I wish we had something like that around here.
Sounds like an incredible way to feed your family!
Brenda, that sounds amazing! I bet we can get a produce coop year round in California. I need to check into this a bit more… it sounds like a great deal. Thanks for posting about it.
wow that’s so awesome! I don’t think we have something like that around here but it sounds like a HUGE blessing
