2010 Gratitude Challenge-November 6

Today I am thankful for cookies.  Last night I made some wonderful Oatmeal Raisin cookies.  They are kind of like the ultimate comfort cookie and I like to pretend they are a little healthier than say, Chocolate Chip.  After all, they have oatmeal and raisins, so they can’t be all bad, right?

Sometimes you just need a good cookie to make the day seem better.  That is what those cookies did for me.  In fact, they must have been pretty good, because the boy, who claims he doesn’t like Oatmeal Raisin cookies, even said they were pretty good and yummy.  My husband loves those kind, so I kind of made them in his honor as well since he was returning from a work trip.

Earlier this week, I had a wonderful Pineapple cookie.  It was super scrumptious and soft.  It had a delicate orange icing and I really think I will have to make some of those soon.  But then I can’t help but think that a good pumpkin cookie would also be welcome.  Since my waistline can’t possibly handle all of those cookies, I will definitely have to decide on one or the other.

My husband was visiting his father a week or so ago.  His dad was going to get rid of the old cookie jar.  Gary snatched it from the jaws of a certain trashcan death and brought it home.  It reminds me of a cookie jar that my mom used to have, only this one is larger.  I want to fill it up with yummy cookies and leave it on my counter.  Maybe I should just look the other way and say it is all good.  Cookie jars are meant to be filled, right?  And you can’t have an empty cookie jar and have kids.  It just somehow doesn’t seem right.

I am no June Cleaver.  But I suppose I could at least think about filling that jar with some cookies.  It is just begging to be filled after all these years.

Do you want to know something really funny?  I used to not actually like cookies.  So I think it is funny that now I am devoting an entire day of gratitude to them.  But I really am thankful for cookies.  Think I’ll go have one now.

What are you thankful for today?

  4. I love cookies! There’s just something about the warmth and love that goes into homemade cookies. Thanks for kickstarting the craving. I think I need to make some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies today. They have to be a little healthier too… oatmeal and dark chocolate. Both good for your heart, right? ;)

  5. I made chocolate chip yesterday. I love cookies. Especially when they are soft and a little warm. Yum.

  6. We are on the same page! I woke up thinking about my mom’s sugar cookies and wishing I felt good enough to make them. I also like Oatmeal Raisin! Mmmmm. Enjoy!!

  7. We love oatmeal raisin cookies. We also love oatmeal craisin cookies. Plus just about any other cookie you can think of.

  8. This makes me smile. Along the same line of thought- I’m thankful for your muffin recipe!

  9. We love cookies around here, too. Unfortunately, I have a hard time keeping them around when I make them–too many mouths to eat them right up! ;) I really don’t like store-bought cookies yet love homemade cookies. Lately I have not taken the time to make them very often. I think tomorrow after church I’ll take time to make some with the children.

  10. Mmmm… Oatmeal raisin cookies sound absolutely lovely… and definitely healthy :)

  11. I love EATING cookies but they really aren’t my favorite thing to bake. I really miss my Mom’s cookies. She made some really yummy ones and her cookie jar was ALWAYS filled.

  12. My grandmother’s chocolate snowdrop cookies and her molasses cookies are my favorite…at least, my favorite BAKED cookies. I am a sucker for uncooked chocolate chip cookie dough, though. Thankfully, once it is cooked (and cooled, because I do like them warm), the cookies just don’t appeal to me so much anymore, so I get to enjoy others enjoying them without being tempted. It’s a weird quirk, but I’m not complaining.

I think tomorrow might be a good day to make cookies. Your post got me in the mood!

    Blessings,

    Heather
