Math Mammoth

I choose to give this product 4 out of 5 Gold Teacher’s Stars!!

If you look at math as a big woolly beast, then Math Mammoth may be just the program for you!  Maria Miller, the author of the Math Mammoth curriculum has created a program that helps both parents and students understand the concepts that sometimes may be elusive.  Her materials are well written and the books become self-teaching as you are guided through the carefully written explanations and mathematical problems.

The Math Mammoth books are available in four different series to meet your learning needs.

The BLUE Series is for grades 1-5 and is organized by topic.  The books contain both the math problems as well as the explanations on how to work them.  In this series you will find addition, subtraction, place value, time, money (including options for Canadian and European currencies),  measuring, multiplication, division, geometry, fractions, and decimals.  There are package deals where you can get all or some of the series for a package price, or you can choose to purchase each portion of the series individually as you need them.

The LIGHTBLUE Series is for grades 1-4.  This series is to be considered a complete math curriculum for these grades.  The books are organized by grade level and offer both the problems and explanations of how to work them.  Each grade level consists of two work texts (A and B), answer keys, tests, cumulative reviews and an additional worksheet maker.

The GOLDEN Series is for grades 3-8.  The workbooks are compiled by grade level and contain math problems only.  (There are not any explanations provided for working the problems.)  These worksheet collections provide variable problems by topic that are great for review and reinforcement.

The GREEN Series is for grades 3-8 and is the one I chose to receive for review purposes.  The workbooks are complied by topic and contain only math problems.  There are not any explanations provided with the math problems.  I thought this would be the most useful in our homeschool as I was looking for reinforcement and practice of math problems by subject.  I really enjoyed being able to pull out the practice we needed by each subject.  It was very beneficial and I chose to use the worksheets  by choosing the easier ones as a great review and  by choosing the more difficult ones where needed as a challenge.  My son really enjoyed working on these problems.  They have proved to be a worthwhile supplement for our homeschool.

Math Mammoth is available in many different formats, but I especially liked the e-book format.  I liked having the material immediately to implement into our homeschool day and I liked being able to choose which worksheets to print when I wanted them.  I liked the clean copy that I was able to obtain by printing them myself, and there was never any waste.

I found the prices for Math Mammoth to be very reasonable and affordable.  If you are interested in several of the volumes, I would suggest that you check out the package deals.  But if you are only interested in supplementing, then the individual pricing is very attractive with some from the blue series as low as $2.00!  Definitely a bargain worth considering!

If you still aren’t sure, I recommend signing up for Maria’s monthly newsletter or her short e-mail course.  When you sign up for either of these, you will receive 280 FREE worksheets and sample pages!  You can get your worksheets at the Math Mammoth site.  Give it a try and you will begin to tame that woolly beast we call math.
